Heit's Point is a Christian Ministry for all ages in a unique retreat setting! Please visit their web site for more information and directions to their location.
As automobile travel became common, folks living in the country often started attending churches in town. Part of the reason was the dwindling rural population and the difficulty of maintaining membership and collecting funds to employ a pastor. This resulted in several rural churches disbanding and the congregations going elsewhere.
The following churches are now either defunct or not in the Cole Camp area, but are included as they have an interesting history and may be of interest due to their cemeteries.
If anyone has additional information, such as address, directions or phone numbers for contacting these churches, please email the webmaster@colecamparea.com..
Trinity Lutheran Church of Prymont

Holy Communion First Sunday of the MonthBethlehem Lutheran
This was one of the oldest congregations in the area having been started prior to the Civil War. No records from the first church exist but the first church was located in the center of the cemetery. It was associated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Early in its history it was associated with the Immanuel Lutheran Church, sharing the same pastor. The congregation disbanded until 1911 when some members of the former congregation met and reformed the congregation. It lasted some 68 years when it was disbanded for the final time. A handsome wooden Gothic style church, built in 1911 still stands. The church and cemetery are located 6 1/4 miles south east of Cole camp.

Monsees/Immanuel Lutheran Church and Cemetery
(Organized 1844)This is the second Lutheran Church to be formed to accommodate the growing German population in the area. It was formed in 1844. The first church was a log building located in the center of the cemetery. A second, larger church was built in 1858. A third church was built in 1900 and the building still stands but is use for storage today. Immanuel started a mission church in 1897 in Cole Camp that became Trinity Lutheran. The last service was held in 1955 and members found new homes in other churches. The cemetery is located some miles south east of Cole Camp.
Mount Olivet Methodist
(Organized 1871)This was one of oldest congregations in the area and served the Anglo-American population that was found to the south and west of Cole Camp. The church was built in 1874 and still stands although it is not used. The church closed its door in 1968. The church and cemetery are located about 4 miles west of Cole Camp.
St. John's Lutheran at Boeschenville Cemetery
(Organized around 1880)This is also known as the "Balke Prairie" church, being located in the area known as Balke Prairie. It was formed around 1880 by parishioners for the surrounding congregations who were dissatisfied with their churches at the time. The reason for this dissatisfaction was primarily that the other churches were too liberal and not teaching the true Gospel according to Luther. In 1911 they built a new church near the established cemetery. The church building no longer stands but the cemetery is maintained by a Lutheran Church in Stover. The cemetery is located several miles east of Cole Camp.
Union Church and Cemetery
(1904-1992)
Methodist Episcopal Church and Williams Cemetery
(1842-1904)This is an historic old church being the first formed to serve the growing Anglo-American population in the area. The land was purchased from Ezekiel Williams in 1842 and a log church was erected and a cemetery established. The present church building was erected in 1904. The cemetery is large and historic with many well known early residents buried there. The church and cemetery are located approximately 2 ½ miles west of Cole Camp on F Highway.
